What I love about my iOS devices is just how versatile they are. One minute I can be playing Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja, then the next I can create my own virtual atmosphere – visual & audio relaxation.
Fireplace HD+ is a perfect example of this versatility, enabling you to experience perfect picture quality, a crisp cracking/burning effect – along with many other customisable options. These options include a selection of built-in audio (seasonal, romantic etc) that can be played along with the crackle of the fireplace, this really impressed me and does truly create a relaxing & unique feel. iPad users also have the luxury of a selection of online radio streams, again, these work really well with the burning fire (tip – place iPad in a stand & it makes an excellent visual/radio experience). For users who want to use the app as a sleep aid, Fireplace HD+ has an optional built-in sleep timer that can be accessed via the main menu.

The game will simply test the participants knowledge of music, this is done by one of the participants picking & singing a tune – it is then the challenge for everyone else to guess the tune that was just sung.
This game comes with some pretty useful features, including the option to compete against different users (via Facebook or username) & send your tune to them – and vice versa… To help assist you in the game there are a few useful options that you may want to consider – as in-app purchases you can buy hints for help with guessing the songs, or if your patience has run out you can always buy a ‘golden pass’ to put you out of your frustration (with the answer).
I see and test a lot of apps… every now and then I come across one that really does stand out with sheer excellence. When I first used iFire ++, I was not only overly impressed in general, I was completely blown away on how stunning this app was visually.
iFire ++ is one of those apps that you really need to try to experience how well everything works & how realistic the virtual flames appear & come to life via touch & tilt executions. Having experienced a handful of fish themed apps in the past, i’m always optimistic when trying out a new one as there are many good & many bad aquarium apps out there. Aquarium Life offers a great unique approach to fish aquarium apps, cleverly using actual aquarium footage mixed in with a selection of features, such as: an interactive liquid screen effect that allows you to create ripples & waves when you touch your screen (very impressive), soothing background audio, the option to switch between 2 saltwater or 2 freshwater aquariums.
The app’s control interface is very impressive and flows very well between navigation menu to aquarium footage & features etc. If you’re looking for a great aquarium app then look no further!

I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality of the free included wallpaper images, there is a good selection for just about anyone to consider using on their home or lock screen (or both). It’s also worth mentioning that there are no annoying ads plastered on the app, which is very refreshing to see.
Every now & then I stumble across an app that is slightly unique or very alternative. This is exactly what I found with Color-Test with its unique approach to color psychology.

While I have experienced some great sketching & painting apps on my iPad, Kaleidoscope Painter caught my attention with its truly unique and fresh approach as a creative application. All you have to do is simply move your finger around the screen to start creating your kaleidoscope images, the control sensitivity is so delicate & works really well.
A clever, yet simple idea that works impressively on the iPad’s screen. Certainly an app that can appeal to all ages and ability.
Christmas for children is a time for fun & excitement. There are lots of great Christmas themed apps currently available on the App Store but I particularly found this one very suitable for parents, as it offers great potential for parents & children to share some Christmas magic.
So the Santa’s Big Helper app comes with many features: Santa Tracker, Elf Cam, Christmas Countdown, Elf Updates, Nice/Naughty List, Letters to Santa, Ask an Elf, Magic Compass & Christmas Soundboard. As you can probably tell from the list of features, there is so much you can do with this app – my favorite feature has to be the Elf Cam, where you’ll be able to see Santa enter your home delivering those much deserved gifts! This alone makes this app very unique with the ability to add that extra magical feel to a child’s Christmas.
Disaster Radar is a virtual world map that pin-points all the latest natural disasters and emergencies around the globe. Why the App Store has this application placed in the entertainment category is beyond my understanding, but in general this is an app that many will find interesting & of use – best of all it’s free. Whether its Earthquake updates, Biohazards, Avalanches & so on, you can get a swift update using this useful app. Those of you who like to travel around the globe will most likely find this of good use.
