Many of us will know that more & more phrases and long words are being shortened into acronyms, abbreviations or codes (or AAC to make things simpler!). While this is convenient for the person who is writing & saving valuable time, it’s a complete frustration for simple-minded guys like me who don’t know what the AAC they have come across means…

Well, thanks to Acro-Dict my days of AAC confusion have finally come to an end. Just by typing in my AAC, the app scours its many resources & identifies/presents the meaning of the AAC that has put me into a state of confusion. What’s impressive with the app’s data?.. Well getting straight to the point, I can tell you that it’s offline – meaning no internet connection is required (very useful to know for an app that uses a resource database).

So for anyone who needs a very useful & powerful reference application, Acro-Dict is the perfect choice to have on your device.

Since the arrival of Siri, many of us folk with older devices have been seeking for similar alternatives. These alternative solutions had yet to impress me until I happened to stumble across the Voice Ask app.

As you open this app you will meet Eve – your new virtual assistant. There are many things that Eve can do for you, she can answer many questions covering a wide range of topics (such as weather, geography, movies, calculations etc…). I found the quick response time & accurate answers from Eve to be very impressive, certainly to a level that left me pleasantly surprised. On top of this I found it very humorous exploring Eve’s sense of humour – she always comes out with a witty answer! This app is certainly a great alternative for non Siri compatible devices.

All of us have many different login ID’s and passwords that we need to use on a regular basis, remembering them all can sometimes be a problem. The Password Protected app allows you to store all these important details, this can be for passwords (obviously), credit card numbers, user identifications and so on. Another useful feature that this app has to offer is a password generator, this will create a unique password for you based on a selection of different options to choose from.

iBartender

iBartender is basically a database of cocktail recipes. This includes many of the well known and most popular cocktail recipes of past and present times. You can search for the cocktail drink name or ingredient, or alternatively you can shake your device to display yourself with a complete random cocktail recipe! Once you find a recipe that you like, you have the option of emailing it to yourself and/or anyone else. This app is updated on a regular basis with more drink recipes being added.

National Geographic World Atlas

National Geographic World Atlas

National Geographic World Atlas includes many great features, including the worlds best maps provided in the highest resolution. When using this app, you’ll be able to browse, search and zoom (using Bing Maps) different locations around the maps. If you have a GPS enabled iPhone you can use this app to track your current location, this could useful for when you are travelling etc.

iSharks

The iSharks app has a comprehensive list and description of around 400 sharks. This gives you an easy to select list in alphabetic order. It also allows you to find information on sharks, this includes descriptions as well as images. iSharks will give you all the shark info and images altogether in one application.
